April Haight leads volunteer effort to clean up Licking River

Director of the Environmental Education Center at Morehead State University, organized the event for National River Cleanup Week

The Licking River is home not only to scuttling trout and stone-skipping dragonflies, but to some unwelcome guests: discarded Ale-8-One bottles, tangled fishing lines and bottle caps.

A team of volunteers from Morehead State University met yesterday to clean part of the river near Cave Run Lake in Rowan County.

The event, one of hundreds nationally during National River Cleanup Week, was sponsored by the group American Rivers.
